Oof, V5 is a difficulty spike; I usually do it after Depths, but I think I do it a bit late.
I was doing it really easily, my fault that I became too confident that I can one shoot everyone that I make a mistake entering in a combat against few monster togheter … my fault!
You live and you learn. V5 spoiler: A fear scroll might’ve helped if you died to the ambush; Vault guards don’t have too much Will
Thanks for the trick.
No ambush for me, only too much confidency
Nothing like dying to remind you not to get too comfortable.
I think we’re in the same boat. Vaults is my farthest too.
Entering the lair branches (spider, etc.) is usually a difficulty jump: the monsters are tougher, and the entrace can be very bad position with only one staircase and lot of enemies. Usually I only enter after clearing the whole dungeon, lair, and orc, and it still can be a difficulty jump. So be prepared to burn some consumables.
I think I was in good shape: resist fire/cold/neg/pois, 4 will, 40+ AC with 20+ SH.
A simple weapon (Broad Axe +9), Horn 3 (on a Minotaur, wow).
No problem at all in Shoals and Spider, even in V1-4, V5 was easy cause I stair-danced … since I become too confident
I’ll gonna retry, MiFi seems good, H’s guide is well described too …
Ok guys, big result today: I was pushed in the Abyss (2 times) and I took the rune
I’m even alive … wonderful
Sorry to bother you but I need another advice: I’m currently in a 3 rune run (already got them), I did D, L, O, Spider, Swamp. What now?
I know I can go to the depth, but I’ve a question: is better to do something else for looting/leveling (example: Vaults, Elf) or is better to go to the Orb?
All of my experience has come from playing a DjCj^Mak, so this probably isn’t the best order, but if you’ve already cleared D up to 15, I’d do Elf to 2 for the xp, but leave if you almost die; then Vaults to 4 for more xp, and you could do crypt too (Use rN); then Slime for the loot, but because you already have three runes, I would only do it if you’re feeling confident, and possibly after Depths (it’s regarded as safer to do Depths first), then Depths or Elf 3, then possibly Vestibule if you’re feeling strong (But NOT the other branches inside the Vestibule), just for the xp and (Item name spoiler) Geryon’s horn, (Item description spoiler) An evokable that summons sin beasts to attack your enemies, although I never really use it. After that, I’d go straight to Zot.
thanks for the reply.
While waiting for an answer I tried V5 and did it … what a fantastic sensation!
I need to ask for a thing: I know that there is a timer that after it reach 0 the game ends: where I can see this timer? I’m afraid to be too slow and perhaps die due to this timer.
You will never encounter this timer in a normal game, but if you do want to see it, you can add “Always_show_zot = true” to your rc file. It will automatically show when you have 500 turns left in your branch, and is increased by entering a deeper floor.
Guys, sorry again but I need help: I’m in Z1 and a new status “ORB” is appeared and it tells me that I’m near or I’m holding the orb … the orb is visibile in the inventory?
Ok: I touched the orb but the dices are not with me …

Wonderful, this game is wonderful!
There’s another timer though that’s set to an insanely large amount of turns, something like 2,000,000 turns I think, that when it expires you immediately die, even if you’re standing with the Orb of Zot on the exit from the Dungeon in the top floor. I either saw that while browsing the source code of DCSS, or saw a dev mention it on Reddit or something.
But this shouldn’t concern you @Yukuai
You can check the current Zot clock status by pressing E (uppercase E with the Shift key), without having to change the configuration like how @person50605 suggested.
I believe it’s more like 200 million.
I confirm, with E you can see that clock
