(I don’t know how to attach an image description to an image, so I’ll put it here: the image is of a hunched bird person dressed in rags, holding a flaming torch up which is what lights the scene. They are holding a dagger in their other hand, and surrounded by an umbra. The only colours are purple and pink hues.)
I’m new to this game, and not very good at the complexities like skill training and keeping track of things and so far Tengu Brigand is my favourite way to make the game feel light and easy-come-easy-go, to the point I’ve been working on a beginner’s guide based around the class- though it’s not finished at all.
Because I keep playing the same character, I’ve kept the name the same. I think in her backstory, every Bimbap TeBr(Y) I make is the same Tengu, being brought back to life again and again by her god to continue pushing down into the dungeon and lighting the torch in Yredelemnul’s name until she can finally claim the orb for them. It’s fun to think of her as learning from my mistakes, getting better as I become more skilled.
So far, this Bimbap has made it 5 levels! It doesn’t sound like much, I’m sure, but I’m quite proud of it.
I hope you like the art and my story of her!
That’s awesome! Don’t rush learning the complexities. It’s important to love the game first. Take it from me. Over 1500 games recorded online and still chasing my first win. Why do I keep playing? I love the game. I love the story behind each character in my head. If I can’t come up with a story I love, sometimes I’ll just abandon the character and start over. It’s a game - the point is to have fun.
Great character story! I love the connection to Yred and having them come back over and over. I’ve done that too, connected respawns together. Sometimes I’ve had it be a family of brothers all trying to avenge each other, or once I alternated human/revenant and had the revenant be the angry undead version of the person who just died lol.
And level 5 is no joke for someone just starting out! It took me forever to get past about that depth. Don’t sweat it. Keep playing, keep learning. Just focus on learning one little thing at a time, and feel free to ask here or search around if you want to know something specific.
Yeah!
I haven’t really touched the skills yet- having to figure out percentages and altering when to do what is a lot of brainpower. i just pick dexterity when i can, and stick to being light and fast i figure if I’m going to focus on melee, being sneaky so i can just stab sleeping people and keep zombie meatshields is more reliable than being tanky but loud and being rushed. Plus, tengus have mutations you have to take into account and are fragile enough that you don’t get too precious about living, so i figure it’s a good way to learn.
honestly my favourite part is when Yredelemnul is like “WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU’RE FALLING TO THE NEXT FLOOR. NO YOU’RE NOT!” and just stops you falling in shafts. I also like that i can teleport my zombies to me if i fly across a river
Lol that’s great. I’m usually a good god main, so Yred isn’t one I’ve used a lot. TSO is probably my favorite followed by Zin these days… although Lugonu is an old favorite (banishment is epic). The shaft thing is a hilarious detail - and also very helpful.
ahhh, since im just playing a tebr over and over i tried to find a nice synergy for it, and the stealthy umbra of yreddy plus the meatshield zombies making up for my fragility and letting me snowball in damage is a nice combo! plus all the good gods are like “waaaah you can’t stab unconcious people” which is really the only way to stab people without immediately being minced as a tengu, i do not have the armour for a stand up fight!
You could try Dithmenos as a stabber. Very interesting abilities. The shadow is cool and Aphotic Marionette is just plain awesome fun. Another one of my favorites.
it looks neat, but i think the later abilities tend to use magic, and as a brigand my magic is like, nil. i DO like the silence though! I’ve been trying every god so far.
