CIP: PrendleTemps The MDFi

Figured I’d start a CIP just to have fun tracking my information and getting input.

I don’t get a lot of time to play games at the moment, maybe an hour here or there, but I wanted to keep track and see if I could finally hit my first rune. I’m playing the desktop release of .33. (Is there a way to get the same interface in the desktop version onto the online version?).

As such, presenting PrendleTemps the Mountain Dwarf Fighter! (Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup version 0.33.1 (tiles) character file.Game seed: 10 - Pastebin.com)

In preparation to dive the dungeon, and hopefully secure my first win, I did some research. First, I determined I would start Maces and Flails because it crosses over with both axes (if a good weapon comes up) and staves (in case I end up switching to a more magic based build since Dwarves have a lot of flexibility in that direction).

Next, I decided I would lean towards some specific gods: Cheibriados, Ashenzari, Qazlal, Makhleb, and Gozag. I wanted to (mostly) avoid gods who were random or didn’t use Invocations as a stat since MD have a nice aptitude.

Cheibriados seemed like the most flexible god who still benefited from a plus to invocations. The stat bonus would go a long way to making use of MD spellcasting possibilities. If I found him early, I would be very pleased.

Ashenzari has a lot of skill boosters and Mountain Dwarves have the benefit of enchanting items under their curse, so that seemed another solid option. Also, their divination abilities make it a lot easier to remove random elements from the playthrough. However, they don’t take advantage of the invocation score and their curses are random, but when 1 curse can hit two good schools AND it’s posted in a dev post that the effect as such is probably too powerful, it’s worth having it on the table.

Qazlal and Makhleb both offer some real good blasting potential and the piety should be easy to refill. Makhleb MDFi worshippers also have some of the best stats in terms of escaping the dungeon.

Gozag is generically strong and has a lot of built in power, but also doesn’t take advantage of the invocation score.

All three good gods and Okawaru are also fine to use in the generic power up sense, but they are filler gods mostly.

I also decided if I found an early shrine on D1-D2 with these gods as the mix, I would more likely take it. Early worship to some of these gods would make the early game easy, but it would have to be worth the risk of being a bit more suboptimal.

Because I ended up getting a really good Sword on D2, I thought I would lean into Ashenzari, but I’m feeling a bit too squishy. I should probably get some more armor skills going and switch over. I also need to play a bit more safe because the plus noise is definitely not helping. I started leveling some magic after hitting a companion curse alongside having some really nice spells. I love the golem, so I want to get that boy online, especially since I have an intense amount of fire resist. Maybe that’s a few too many directions, especially since I’m not sure how long the sword will be good for, but I figure I should probably use it as best I can.

Advice welcome! I’m probably not going to play for a few days.
