Easiest caster for beginner

Hurl torch feels like free iceblast charges every level, I like to use them to save on wand charges!

Don’t forget the buff effect, might’d Lernean hydra felt like I had Ignacio bound

as a caster I never use wands, only for digging … maybe I need to rethink about this.
Never used Torch, I really need to don’t be afraid to consume piety

It might help to develop a habit of using wands more, even as a Dj blaster. Dj’s have a huge “MP” pool, so you rarely encounter the “I’m out of MP” scenario. Even so, having a couple wands charged up (by that, I mean 4-8 Evoc) still matter. In Dj’s case, firing wands can be thought of as mini-healing pots: e.g., you blast em with 3 iceblasts instead of 3 prisms, that’s saving you 12 HP.

Maybe some players avoid using wands because they are “limited” resources. But the game provides so many charges that it actually takes effort to use up all the wands. If you look at win morgues, I bet you’ll see most of the characters winning with 100+ combined charges left, despite regular usage.

LOL guys

I was in O2, room was filled with ogres and orcs, killed one and Mak passive Hem exploded: game lagged, tons of blood everywhere, room clear … from 20+ enemies to 2 only of them spared by the hemo massacre … wonderful

4 Thanks

Another failed run.

I was so sure about this run, I exploded V5 without any problems (thanks to Hemoplague) that diying in U1 made me sad.

I really need to be more careful, even (and above all) when I easly kill everything.

Yeah, equipping rHubris is maybe the most important thing you can do. Sorry about the death.

EDIT: lol, rHubris is really needed for me

2 Thanks

When you find a reliable source of it, let me know! Sorry about the splat.

even today: MiFi^Oka, a really easy smooth run, I had got 3 scroll of aquirement too, I was flying like a killing machine since I rampaged* into a room full of enemies that gang-banged my poor Mino … shame on me :frowning:

*: I had a wonderfull unique set of boots that granted me infinite rampage, I was rushing into mob distant from me crushing them to death … what a wonderful sensation

It could be great if it was possibile to be followed but some of you, experts, on discord, to better understand my mistakes…

I avoid rampage unless it is part of the intrinsics of the race or I have a very very specific built (I used it to great effect on a VS^Usk, getting stabs during the finale without having to close the distance. It is also very helpful with stabbers).

The reason I avoid it, even though it is very fun, is that I have a problem reasoning about the terrain with it. It isn’t muscle memory for me, so I just make a lot of mistakes. It also is one of the worst -rHubris around for me, besides lvl9 spells that actually back up your hubris. Rushing into a pack of enemies and killing them is just extremely fun… but when I use it I’m typically running into the unknown. Which means something might be lurking just out of los that I want to avoid.

If I want to win I pull things to me by yelling, throwing, or retreating into terrain I want to fight in. When I’m at my best, I’m always always always thinking about lines of retreat.

You can’t tab in Seven League Boots (infinite rampage), and I usually tab carefully in regular rampage. Pairs well with acrobat so you can retreat if you overextend.

Guys, I need help.

I’m in my DjCj^Jiv run (one of the funniest I ever had), I did D/L/O&E and obviously the Slime Pits … and now?
Usually at this stage I do S branches but … I can’t find anyone :-|

Never happened to me to don’t have those branches, so I’m a little bit dazed: what you suggest to do now?

I really don’t want to throw (even) this run…

and nothing: V5 was my last end.

I was destroying things till something stoned me and ggwp everyone.

I hate this game :frowning:

Try a different species maybe? Seems like you always play Djinnis

If you did play a different species as a caster, I highly recommend DECj^Veh, who was the GOAT even before they got intrinsic mana regeneration. Prism and mystic blast will get you to high level spells. Veh will give you the lvl 7-9 spells you need to win the game (probably). It is my most winning combo by far, and I can frequently get lvl9s online before I’m done with the S branches, a few times even before L5. Rush you magic schools, ignore defenses (the best defense is a good offense (until you die from a very small wound)), and be very very very afraid. Brave sir Sobieck bravely ran away.

I love Dj cause are really fun and they make some funny RNG runs, with other casters I really don’t understand how to manage situation where I run out of mana (go melee? So I need to try melee too? Evocations go-go?)

But, ehy: I did hundreds of run only as a TrMo, then tried MiFi, now spells … I’m evolving :stuck_out_tongue:

DECj seems fun, as I said before, I need to better understand what to do if I run out of mana

Wait, you couldn’t find Shoals/Swamp/Snake/Spider? They have to spawn somewhere in Lair. Usually L2 or L3 for me. Did you search all of each Lair floor?

What to do with DECj when you are low on mana? Run. Run before you are out of mana. Run when you have like maybe 2 casts worth left, just in case something comes up behind you.

A risk I see with starting with Dj blasters is that they give such a huge pool of “MP.” This isn’t normal for casters. So Dj never really teaches you how to manage MP and Spellcasting–and more importantly, running earlier.

With any other caster, I focus on the school to get failure down to like 5-7%, then buy Spellcasting for MP until my main gun starts feeling iffy. Then I focus on the school again. Then back to Spellcasting. Fit Stealth, Fighting, Evoc, Invoc, Shield, Dodge in there, like ~2 levels at time. Rinse, repeat.

Mana management isn’t that hard. Just run away. Prism is especially good for this because you cast one, take two steps, and then cast, take two steps. So you are getting regen in those steps. Veh gives you passive mana when you kill things, and DE gets a boost to mana regen.

My favorite tactic is to use loud spells on the stairs. Plasma beam, Coupling, Shatter, Prism, etc. Wait until things come to me, kill them and if they get within one tile, escape up the stairs and go down a different set and repeat. It works like a charm. Having a floor above you to recharge your batteries is really nice.
