I know that getting mephitic cloud is pretty important but how do you exactly get to and past that point consistently? It only takes one enemy with rPois and your spells are useless, and if it’s insubstantial, the sticky flame won’t do much, either.

rPois enemies can still be affected by Mercury Vapous to give them the weak status…but you’ll need a decent weapon to finish them.
I find that the first few wights are really tough to deal with since you likely won’t have sticky Flame available yet.

Put a few early levels into stealth, If its insubstantial and you don’t have a counter yet, just disengage and run away. It’s pretty much just phantasms and the occasional shade as you’re approaching Orc/Lair. They’re rarely worth the consumables.

I run away a lot. Really, with any caster, not just Alchemists. I’ll come back for em later, when I have better guns. They ain’t going nowhere.
Also, wands. Any wand other than poly and maybe mindblast will do nicely. I’ll empty em into whatever’s bothering me if I can’t get away. It’s not like I’ll ever run out of ammo.
