If you've played caves of qud

How is it? How does the best RPG compare to the best roguelike?

1 Thank

I haven’t played it in years but even then I thought it was phenomenal. I would consider playing without permadeath through some mechanism, I used a debug option that whenever I died asked me if I should actually die. There just seems to be a skill gap that is easier to close with a little experience and not dieing permanently for a bit helps

got it. as long as dcss players like it it’s probably really good.

do you still have the game installed? if you do or if you remember did you change the keybinds to be like dcss? because on the wiki yuhjklbn doesn’t move like in dcss. im going to have to change that. also permadeath is something you can turn on and off I hear from a youtube video by retromation

it’s cool, you can equip six pistols on your four biological arms & two mechanical arms and fire them at once, if you are lucky

very cool. got it yesterday have yet to actually really play it

There’s a game mode with no permadeath now, so this is baked in.

yea roleplay mode for noobs and a chill experience or classic to die permanently. I love the option of choosing

Cool game, never beaten it.

all i have to say is a chrome pyramid would kick an orb of fire’s ass

I’ve heard it’s more of a sandbox like Cataclysm. Try Zorbus, Rift Wizard, Sword of the Stars or Nethack if you want a DCSS-adjacent experience.

2 Thanks

thanks. I don’t mind a game being non-adjacent to DCSS, as I’m quite enjoying Caves of Qud. I don’t think I would like an adjacent game as DCSS is already pretty perfect in its field.
