Is there a way to tell if a monster will walk into poison clouds?

enemies try to be be smart around clouds and refuse to step into harmful clouds unless they think they should tank it. I’m having a little trouble with predicting how they decide that and it’s limiting when it comes to making use of scrolls of poison. scrolls of poison deal a loot of damage to monsters that decide to walk into them and can solve fights against non-poison resistant scary monsters on their own, but what if they don’t walk in and you don’t have something ranged to kill the monster that way? in that scenario there’s an element of guessing that I don’t like, so I wonder if there is a way to know?

Smarter creatures are less likely to do it than animals. In some ways it’s a win/win because if they stay still they are stuck and you can fight melee monsters from a distance. If they pursue you they take a lot of damage which helps you win the fight.

If you want to force them to walk through clouds, you can quaff attraction or read fear

it sounds like you can’t really know
