Now that quickblades have been nerfed in .34, I decided to go back to .33 and play the classic Vinestalker of Uskayaw with a quickblade. Well, I just cleared the Hall of Blades and have finally given up hope of ever finding a true quickblade. At least I have the next best thing, I guess (+9 rapier of speed).
The odds of NOT rolling a QB on this seed seems really low…I’ve used 4-5 Scrolls of Acquirement (the one thing I could’ve done differently is wait until I had 14 SB skill for those first couple scrolls), no QB. No QB in the Hall of Blades. And I even cleared the Cloud Mage’s Chambers, for which the wiki states: “This lab also has a good chance of producing a quick blade, either as a weapon for the Cloud Mage or as loot in their chamber.” LOL what a tease. I’ve got them Quickblade blues … let’s hope I don’t lose!

My recent kobold game also really wanted a quickblade but instead I had to do with rapier and not any cool-branded rapier like electric, no I finished the game with a rapier of protection. My whole game was full of rapiers of protection; I had like 5 of them. I tried rebranding a few times to get a flat damage brand and just settled back on protection brand haha.

I also get SO MANY weapons of protection in the game recently. The last scroll of branding loves giving me this brand too.
Oh noooooo, it gets worse.
I entered the Necropolis on Vaults:1 and behold, in a portal vault, is a Spriggan Defender with a Quickblade. Standing next to a juggernaut. and a Spriggan Berserker. Surrounded by more Spriggan Defenders, and Tengu Warriors, and Moths of Wrath. Against my better judgment, I decided to go for it, burn whatever consumables it takes to get my hands on the Quickblade. I chugged Invis, Haste, Might, and went in. Started with scroll of poison, javelins for the Momewraths, and once Uskayaw granted me solo time I chugged Attraction. Fools threw themselves on my rapier. Grand Finale took care of the Juggernaut. Dealt with two more Spriggans and I was done. The Quickblade was within my grasp! I picked it up…and it is a randart with Antimagic, bringing my Vinestalker’s MP bar from 34 down to 13. What a cruel twist of fate!!

I did it! The build definitely felt good, though my HP pool felt a little small the entire game. O-Tabbed Vaults, Depths, and Zot much faster than I usually do. One of the smoothest Zot:5’s I have ever done and I DIDN’T use Revelation in Zot at all!
I DID get a vampiric quickblade finally, at the bottom of Crypts, just before Zot. Killed Mennas, Khufu, and Boris to get it–luckily didn’t run into Vv.
