Mountainshell are absurd

Are those clockroaches? If you find one then know that it is impervious to any ranged damage.

Warding is not obvious at all. And the description feels lacking. These things can survive an infinite blast of Fire Storm and will only die from fire vortices, that’s ridiculous. What you would think after reading the descriptions and resistances is that those shells are immune to physical ranged damage at best but nay. I had it successfully curared and immolated for nothing. Better consider them like clockroaches.

I do agree it feels very weird that these things are immune to massive AOE even at range. “Immune to projectiles” I could get behind. But Shatter should Shake them to dust.

DCSS has been moving into the more ‘arcade’ direction for a while though. So I’m not altogether surprised.

Warding has a status effect symbol in tiles and console lists the status effect in the monster list. If you put the cursor over it, it will tell you “damange-immune at range”. If you look at the mosnter’s description, there’s a status tab that explains clearly what the status does:

Damage-immune at range:
This creature takes no damage by any means unless the original source of that
damage is adjacent to them. Non-damaging side-effects happen normally.

(The source of damage from clouds and projectile-like monsters, such as
foxfires, is always considered whatever creature first created them.)

Clockroaches are simpler enemies that expose the player to the effect early in the game. You do have to read about new enemies you encounter to learn though!
