I just had one of the most amazing battles.
Some good luck on this run: Got red as a Draconian FE. Sweet. Got Sif from a faded altar. Nice.
The dungeon made me work a bit. I had to skip levels and backtrack a few times. Nothing too major. I was mostly avoiding fire resistant mobs. Then came level 8.
I was cornered with no TPs or blinks. I killed a bunch of monsters including several lethal ones, went from level 9 to 10 during the fight. I used what consumables I had as best I could, quaffed Lig and started scorching and blasting mobs with a wand of warping after reading Immo scrolls (did that two or three times!). A couple of times in the fight I thought it was over and enjoyed that rush of having overcome great adversity. Like, at least twice I felt I was done, maybe three times, and then more very well-armed monsters would show up. All the while I was hanging on by hit points in the single digits and relying heavily on Sif’s Channel Magic. It was crazy and fun!
And then finally, when I thought I must really be done cuz there couldn’t possibly be any more mobs on this entire floor, I moved back a few squares to a previously explored hallway to rest up, and then a centaur wielding Sniper appears and kills me. ![]()

You start resting.
You encounter a centaur. It is wielding the +27 heavy crossbow "Sniper" {heavy,
Acc+∞ SInv} and carrying a +0 orcbow.
The centaur shoots a bolt. The bolt hits you!!!
Ouch! That really hurt!
You die...
NOOOOO!
run looks great indeed. Then the reaper incarnate comes with the Sniper. R.I.P
What belongs to the People you shall give back to the People

The dungeon is sadistic and ironic. The Tutorial is over. Next time is the real game with all due compensation ~ Oblivion
This weapon the centaur had looks absurdly overpowered and has no business being generated anywhere close to as low as D8. It looks like this thing should oneshot any fully healed char on D8 no matter how dodgy or tanky they are.
Looking at your inventory, I think I would have worn the broad axe instead of the short sword. You only get the extra 4 AC after you hit something with it which is not what your char is doing. Weapon slot is purely for stats, res poison is very nice soon for lair and +3 int it great for your char.
I’m too chicken for faded altars, you got lucky this run but generally getting a god that fits with your build to me is worth waiting until the temple. I would have learned blink the moment I got the spell, plus learning at least two or three levels of translocation to get it to less than 5% failure rate. I would also learn a few levels of fighting, one or two levels less of fire magic, conjuration and spell casting for 4 or 5 levels of fighting helps you survive a lot and still does enough damage to kill things.
