Which bad advice would you give a player you don't like?

This is another topic from the old tavern I remember. There were a lot of ideas :-)

I wonder if other players remember this topic. If not: new bad advice is welcome.

Always charge Centaur Warriors over open ground to get into melee range.

Always fight Sigmund when you see him for the first time.

Always worship at faded altars. Don’t worry about Xom being an option. In fact he’s the one you want.

2 Thanks

Place prisms right next to you. That way the you can kill enemies within melee range.

When you encounter Erolcha und your char feels weak, don’t teleport immediately. First read a scroll of silence so that she can’t banish you. Then read a scroll of teleportation.

Wait that actually sounds like good advice.

Before you head deep into the dungeon, get your first rune by going into the slime pits, located in the easy lair branch.

When you find a great item on the first floors be assured your game is already won. Turn off HP warning and tab to your victory.

  • Don’t bother training stealth.
  • Train your weapon skill to 27.
  • Stick to one magic school for the entire run, it always works out.
  • You can handle an Orb of Fire just fine, no need for rF.

I’m a moron.

always wait for some bad RNG before reading a scroll of acquirement

2 Thanks

You don’t have to press anything other than O and Tab for 80% of the run

In CrawlWiki, read character guides of players who just won their first game.

For lethal threat monsters, just tab until you’re at 20% of your health, then maybe think about consumables.

DCSS is a game new players often struggle with so let me give you some tips to ease you into the game and maximize enjoyment!

The game works on a pass/fail system. If you lose, your entire run was meaningless. A waste of several minutes if not several hours. The only thing that matters is the result!

You’ll never get rng like that again so only play the same seed when you get something good. The best way to win the game is to focus on an auspicious seed so you know what to expect.

Play spriggan. Their superior speed keeps them out of danger. Just keep kiting and resetting fights as needed.

Save consumables for the end. If your character can’t survive without consumables during the earlier parts of the game, they are simply not strong enough to survive the later parts anyway! Better to die early to minimize the waste of time.

use-ID all your items in combat, after falling below 30% hp, so they don’t go to waste! Save your ID scrolls for consumables that you pick up later since those are more likely to be rare and valuable.

Save your acquirement scrolls until the game ~70% of the game is over. This maximizes the chance it will give you a rare item!

All strong enemies are so straight forward that you don’t need to read what their spells/abilities do! xv is mostly for flavor text!

Only play the species such as minotaur or troll in order to mindlessly o-tab past the early game to get to the “real game” faster.

When the game asks you to confirm that you really want to do something, always say Yes. The devs play very cautiously and that’s not what you’re here for, they’re trying to scare you away from doing really fun things in the game.

Well, duh.
