Early shop had a decent dragon-blood talisman and statue in Lair:2. I probably should’ve kept my apostles on the floor above and tried moving toward my soon-to-be killer Orik sooner instead of trying to wait (I wasn’t paying attention to when my barbs went away until it was too late)
There’s too much micro management with the apostles still for Beogh to feel worth my while outside of trying to save a run from an early priest. They have anti-synergy with too many spells and aren’t powerful enough on their own. You basically have to go melee brute, park them off screen, and just bring them in for big fights. It’s kind of lame. The top invo blood feud thing is neat but ends up burning too much piety for the amount of killing they do outside of breaking heavy vaults.
Maybe if their recycle was quicker, or they were immune to your clouds or something. Or you could heal them with smite, or equip them better like platinum paragon, or anything so I don’t just hate them and take schadenfreudenistic delight in their demise.
I’m giving Devs points for trying, but yea, new B is still too much of a hassle. Costs me brain juice better spent on tactics and consumable usage. I’d just take Hep or new Yred and call it a day.
I like new Beogh but the apostles do need a buff. They always end up too squishy and/or do too little damage to be useful. I think I’ll end up making another post at some point to say how I think they could be made better.
Some time ago I saw a post on r/dcss on Reddit where someone got annoyed that their apostle got confused, hit them, their shield of reflection reflected the attack back to the apostle, and then they got penance instead of Beogh blocking the harm to the apostle like other gods.
