Playing the guide that @RepoMan made for .33 in some .34 dcss. I was on a good run, till a three Floor Shaft dropped me down. I fought my way up D:14 and D:13 but died on D:12 to walking onto a pressure plate and getting jumped by 8 redbacks. Morgue here: https://cbro.berotato.org/morgue/Littlesealraven/morgue-Littlesealraven-20261026-185650.txt With limited consumables, what’s the best way to survive a shaft like that? I do realize I probably shouldn’t have tried for the ice cave and should’ve removed the -Tele artefact earlier.
Train more stealth. Use apportation, even at 61% failure chance. (That’s mostly for the situation where you’re shafted and you see an item you want to pick up that’s in a slightly risky position.) Use fog, blink and tele I guess? it sucks that you had so few identified items, but I can’t fold your identification choices, I’d often do similar. Explore carefully, and backtrack lots. An ice cave could totally have killed me too in a situation like this, I’m a completionist. I would’ve used ?revelation to make it safer (dunno if you did too)
somewhat funny because avoiding especially bad shafts is exactly why I prefer not to go to D:11 before clearing lair xD and I would definitely prioritize getting back to where I dropped from over finding a timed branch
you had one scroll of revelation unused and as far as I can tell you never used any. this is THE time to use scrolls of revelation, shaft situations are almost what they’re made for. immediately getting to know where all the stairs on the level are and the layout of the level makes finding your way up much less risky in many ways. scrolls of revelation have relatively little use otherwise, so you have no reason not to use them whenever you get shafted dangerously
the amulet you were wearing looks like a bad deal. I would never pay the ability to use scrolls of teleportation and blinking for whatever it was doing for you, look at the 4 scrolls of blinking that you couldn’t use because of it, it’s the exact consumable you would want to use if you got ambushed by a horde of redbacks
I don’t know how your micro play looked there, but maybe the scrolls of poison and scroll of butterflies could’ve been used at some point? poison is particularly nice for you because you’re immune to poison clouds with rPois
Thanks for the advice about revelation! I used the lignification potion at the end to get the rPois, but it wasn’t enough to save me. I’ll keep this in mind next time!
oh my bad, I thought the rPois came from something else, in that case the scrolls of poison were a little more difficult to make use of
