You know how in Skyrim everything becomes a stealth archer eventually? Well I think I found my equivalent for dcss. Over the past few days I’ve been trying to get Tiamat and Grand Player. So I pick a class I haven’t won, play like the class demands, find veh, focus training on a good spell, start blasting, then train up to end game spells while spending 1/2 my skills points on defenses.
I love playing blaster casters. Spell casting is a lot more fun to me than melee or managing minions. And dracs are really good casters. +0 attributes are very doable if you are trying to get even lvl 9 spells up. And the colorings can get +2 attributes. Combine that with how robust they are for free in terms of armour and hit points, you get a pretty good platform. Oh, and their breath makes for an amazing backup weapon. Mennas got rocked with dispelling breath in one play through so they couldn’t silence me. They also just got rocked around a corner with firestorm this last game.
It’s been pretty successful. I One-and-woned a hedge wizard and a wanderer. That is 40% of my one-and-wons. I also got a win with an artificer.

Edit: It is funny that only one of these wins have counted towards Tiamat. I had won with red and purple before

Edit2: They are also training me to use things that aren’t plan one. I’m terrible about evokables and god abilities which is why my winrate is like 2%. When I use my consumables and evokables that jumps to 10%+. But I’m very aware of their breath and I use it quite a bit. But it makes me think about what other consumable or evokables I could use in x situation. So that is also a neat side effect.
