[YAVP] My first win, MDMo^Nem (0.33)

After playing DCSS for years (since 0.29) I finally acquired my first win with a dwarf and a gambling addict. Who knew that using ALL Nem’s abilities makes the game easier huh!

It was a fun run. Basically my first escape run in the game (I don’t count the previous one when I didn’t even leave Zot:5 =_=), and I’m surprised that it’s actually not that hard! For some reason I thought it would be really difficult. With that said I did it with 10 !haste and 11 ?blinking so maybe I’m just lucky :D

The hardest parts were probably Depths and Zot (although amusingly Z:5 was pretty easy) because the lack of resistances (particularly rElec and rCorr) was VERY noticeable.

I didn’t want to do any late-game optional branches except for Elf (because Depths is scary and I rather grind a bit before it) but I found the dreamshard necklace and figured it’d be more useful on the run than my amulet of faith so I went to Crypt to grind Nem’s piety a bit (wasn’t needed at all in the end).

I played offline so am not sure where to upload my morgue file so here it is: Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup version 0.33.1 (tiles) character file.Game seed: 1 - Pastebin.com

Good job!

Fwiw orb run is usually not that hard, unless you’re playing something with fewer escape options, like Fo, Na or a Chei worshipper. Also every once in a while you’d get one that is truly cursed sideways with pan lords and fiends everywhere, but most of the time it’s very tame compared to Z:5 and such. The thing to keep in mind is that you should inspect every new pan lord, so you can react to ones who have Silence+Big-scary-damage-spell combo.

You’re right, I just blinked to the edge of LoS and quaffed !haste anytime I saw a panlord appear. Having an Exile card ready-to-use did make me a bit careless I guess!
