Winning a Poltergeist for the first time was surprisingly hard for me. I first tried a Fighter and had to go down the background list all the way to Enchanter before I succeeded (not an optimal order by any means). So it took 14 games in total to get a victory. I had several games where I got a couple of runes but somehow managed to mess it all up.
With Enchanter, I played as a stabber with spell support (mostly summons and Tukima’s). In the early game, Ensorcelled Hibernation and Petrify were heavily used to set up stabs. Indeed, I petrified moths of wrath even in Zot just for fun. Stealth was also maxed with the +5 apt.
I took Gozag on D:5, because I wanted to play it safe to finally get my first Poltergeist win.
Sphinx Sisters is an awesome spell, my new favourite. Add a mana viper if spellcasters are around, and for heavy opposition, Malign Gateway and everything dies.
I only bribed Zot just before entering Zot:5. That’s why I still had over 7k gold in the end (forgot to bribe other branches on the way up except for D).
Only one dart slug killed.
My 106th victory, first PoEn played. Poltergeist sinks down to place 30 on my all-time species list with 1/14=7% wins. Enchanter is now my 17th best background with 5/42=12% wins. Overall, my win rate is now 106/910=12%.
