Hello there!
I’m slowly moving towards my goal to win with every species and gods (but not combinations of both!) which might be unfathomable for me (I like to play risky) but it’s fun so who cares!
This run (that’s not really fresh) I got my first minotaur and Qazlal win, as well as got my first experience with prioritizing throwing over evocations.
Well, first of all, minotaur is just a species you play when you want to win. No doubt they have many fans - but I’m not one of them. Minotaur is strong and that’s it, there’s nothing interesting in them beyond that.
I took gladiator as my start because I wanted to check how well a quarterstaff performs in the early game. It. Is. Great!! Seriously, it’s such a better experience than all the other martial weapons! Very good balance between damage, accuracy and skill investment. Lesson learned!
Then there’s Qazlal. Great abilities but the noise… um maybe I’m overestimating its influence and could’ve won with less survivability but I felt really limited under this loud god. Amulet of regen, a tower shield, cleaving weapons and as much AC as I can get felt like a necessity. That’s fine this run but I can’t imagine any other run to feel differently from this one.
The way people talk about javelins make it feel like it’s some god-tier weapon that will destroy crowds while silver javelins evaporate Orbs of Fire. Nah! With 19 throwing half my silver javelins missed OOFs and when they did hit - damage is good but not great. Better than nothing but every time my javelin missed and I saw “you feel strange” in the log, I heard a distant voice. “This wouldn’t happen with a wand of acid with as much evo…” Shrugs
And as such, my clumsy, frail, weak and screaming minotaur the conqueror brought the legendary Orb of MacGuffin to the surface, feeling the grass with her feet (because somehow she didn’t find a single pair of shoes in the dungeon lol).
