Elyvilon the Naive, good god of Futile Charity and Devotion
Appreciates:
Slowly gains piety simply by exploring the world.
Gains piety upon discovering evil locations (such as the Orcish Mines, Ossuary or etc).
Deprecates
Elyvilon dislikes it when:
kill weak monsters who are not evil and have not been summoned.
(divine spell focuses on neutralizing the weak.)
[Piety level - ] :
Protection from Harm
Holy Water
You carry a sacred resource called Holy Water.
The maximum amount of Holy Water is the present value of piety.
In extremely evil dungeons, Elyvilon’s divine spells consume Holy Water instead of mana.
In those dungeons, you regenerate 1 Holy Water per second.
In those dungeons, divine spells is enhanced.
Display Example:
Piety 120, Holy Water 50) * * - - - .
[Piety level * ] :
Invocation School Magic
Elyvilon grants access to holy spells that can only be learned through devotion to Ely.
There are 9 spells total, all based on the Invocation skill.
[Piety level ****** ] :
Elyvilon grants you the spell Holy Book — but only once.
You cannot receive this gift if you’ve already been granted Brand Weapon with Holy Wrath by TSO.
These spells can only be used while you actively worship Elyvilon.
Design Notes:
I’ve long wanted to make Elyvilon a clerical spell god.
it’s a naive idea.
I hoped Elyvilon would function differently between extended and standard dungeon branches, similar to TSO.
Because I want holy spells to be used frequently
instead of granting mana regeneration like Vehumet or Sif Muna
I chose to give Elyvilon a separate resource.
It’s still just a blueprint, so I was getting a feel for things before proposing anything concrete.
In my view, invocation spells should follow these principles:
They are incompetent, useless, foolish, and naïve trash spells of Elyvilon.
However, they are helpful only to Elyvilon and serve as a means to overcome Ely’s penalty of “do not kill the weak.”
They are related to neutralization, have ideas involving summoning, and might even be reverse-spells of necromancy.
That said, I do have one clear idea.
Kiss – Level 1, Invocation/Hex School
Heals a target at melee range (1 tile). Attempts to neutralize the target.
If the target’s HD is not lower than the caster’s level (i.e., if it is not weak), the chance of neutralization is 0%.
Interesting! I’d say it’s better to word the conduct in terms of “threat” i.e. “Elyvilon disapproves the killing of non-evil low-threat beings” since “threat” is what is visible on the UI.
I would also suggest making Elyvilon a foil of Kikubaaqudgha: like Kiku, naive Ely gifts a random subset of some spells they will offer (i.e. Kiku only has a chance of giving you Animate Dead), and gifts in two batches based on piety threshold. Unlike Kiku who is EVIL, naive Ely’s capstone gift is to offer ALL the spells, i.e. also offer the ones not initially offered in the first two batches, so you will get assured access to all the Ely spells at ****** because Elyvilon is good.
Spells:
Kiss of Absolution Level 1 Invocations/Hexes
Basically your “Kiss” spell but made more dignified.
Chance based on spellpower to make a low-threat adjacent enemy neutral. Summons are abjured. Demons and undead are instead destroyed outright.
Summon: “The summoned <monster> accepts absolution, and returns to whence they came.”
Living: “The <monster> accepts absolution, and turns to leave.”
Zombie/Skeleton: “The <monster> accepts absolution, and lies down peacefully to eternal rest.” Jory does not explode in a splash of blood.
Spectre: “The <monster> accepts absolution, and fades from existence.”
Demon: “The <monster> accepts absolution, its demonic features disappearing first as it fades from existence.”
Redirection of Vitality Level 1 Invocations/Alchemy
Spend some of caster’s HP to gain Holy Water, or MP if not in an evil branch.
aka the GOOD Sublimation of Blood.
Resurrect Level 3 Invocations
Beam targets an undead enemy monster. If it passes a will check, the monster is turned into a living version of itself, and if the new version is low threat, becomes neutral.
Some undead monsters which are not derived undead (flayed ghosts, curse skulls) simply become plain humans, which may be low-threat and therefore immediately neutralized.
Spirit of Compassion Level 3 Invocations/Summoning
Summons up to 1 Spirit of Compassion ally.
Has no attack and no resistances, AC, or EV. HP based on spellpower.
Regenerates HP of nearby allies, enemies, and neutrals.
If damaged or debuffed by a low-threat enemy, that enemy has a chance to become neutral (summons are abjured).
Summoned: “The summoned <monster> is moved by compassion, and returns to whence they came.”
“The <monster> is moved by compassion, and turns to leave.”
If destroyed by an enemy:
If destroyed by a low-threat enemy, that enemy has 100% chance to be neutralized.
Otherwise, the enemy that destroyed it is paralyzed for a few turns. “The <monster> is immobilized by compassion’s end!”
Pacifist Prayer Level 4 Invocations
Build up the prayer (the player character has to stay in place and wait for a few turns). When the prayer concludes, all low-threat enemies within 2 tiles are neutralized (they may resist based on spellpower vs will, and if so, are instead paralyzed). Spellpower reduces duration.
aka Elyvilon’s Compassionate Coupling.
Deliverance Level 5 Invocations/Translocations
Teleport low-threat enemies within two tiles of the caster. Affected enemies have a will-based chance of resisting, in which case they will instead blink.
Offer of Asylum Level 8 Invocations
Applies the Asylum buff to the caster for some time based on spellpower. While it is active, low-threat enemies within 2 tiles of the caster will have a chance of being neutralized based on spellpower vs willpower.
Summoned: “The summoned <monster> accepts asylum, and returns to whence they came.”
Living: “The <monster> accepts asylum, and turns to leave.”
Zombie/Skeleton: “The <monster> accepts asylum, and lies down peacefully to eternal rest.” Jory does not explode in a splash of blood.
Spectre: “The <monaster> accepts asylum, and fades from existence.”
Demon: “The <monaster> accepts asylum, its demonic features disappearing first as it fades from existence.”
