Have the developers ever considered using a static analyzer, like PVS-Studio? Not trying to sell them, I just heard about them years ago because they analyze Free Software projects and publish it on their blog. Also they offer a free license to Free Software projects so maybe you can qualify? Maybe this could help DCSS be as bug-free as possible
